It eliminates imperfections caused by usual wear and tears and gives a fresh new look to your floors. If you have been putting this important task on hold because of the price tag, you must realize that you need Sanding refinishing your floors is possible without spending a fortune.
To decide whether your floor should be refinished:
- If your floor has worn out spots from traffic
- Scratches from furniture or animals
- Want a new color or stain
Recruiting an expert is the best approach to revamping your hardwood floors. Here’s how our flooring experts at Supreme Hardwood Floors take care of your floor’s sanding and refinishing.
Stage 1: Sanding
The first thing we do is prepare our sander and the floor and then we. cautiously start sanding the floor from the corner, away from the door.
Each site has some unique supportive sanding tips:
- For oak wood, we start with 60-grit sandpaper. We move to 80-grit next and get it done with 100-grit cloth.
- It is recommended that you sand like you’re mowing the garden. We go line by line until the entire space is covered.
- For edges, we work as close to the baseboard moldings as possible.
Stage 2: Dust Clean Up
Once we are done with the process of sanding, we vacuum the entire region and then wipe the floor with a tack material.
We always perform a comprehensive inspection to check for any gaps while we are grinding away. If there are openings, we fill them in with wood filler.
Stage 3: Sealing & Applying Stain
Our experts wipe the floor with a material gently hosed with mineral spirits. If you need to change the shade of the floor, this is when we will apply the stain. We can also use a sanding sealer to ensure that the sanding process is completed efficiently.
We begin from the corner of the room, in the same way we did for sanding. We allow the sealer to dry per the guidelines and complete the process with a light sanding using 320-coarseness paper.
In the event that you want to change the color of your floor, we start with a pre-stain conditioner. It’s recommended to apply a few coats rather than overdoing them.
